Süper Lig (Turkey)

The Süper Lig is the top tier of professional football in Turkey. It was officially established in 1959 following a decision by the Turkish Football Federation.

The league operates on a conventional round-robin system where each club plays every other team twice, once at home and once away. At the end of the season, the top team is crowned Turkish Champion and qualifies for European competitions. The bottom four teams are relegated to the TFF 1. Lig.

Historically, the league has been heavily dominated by the three big traditional clubs from Istanbul. Apart from Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, and Beşiktaş, only Trabzonspor, Bursaspor, and İstanbul Başakşehir FK have managed to win the championship title in the league's history.
